Directorate of Information Technology & Technical Education

The Directorate of Information technology and technical education is the administering authority for technical education and higher technical education in the state. All colleges, institutions and university departments providing technical and higher technical education and education in information and communication technologies comes under the purview of this Directorate.

The technical education in the state of Nagaland started in 1972 with the establishment of first polytechnic, the Nagaland Polytechnic at Atoizu in the state. Later this institute renamed as Khelhoshe Polytechnic KPA. To provide equal opportunities to women candidates in the state there established Women Polytechnic at Kohima in 1994 and later renamed as Government Polytechnic Kohima GPK.

With the advancement of new technologies, the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) grown manifold and Institute for Communication and Information Technology (ICIT) was established at Mokokchung in 2003. The ICIT has received assistance from World Bank. Further technical education sector was transferred and merged with the department of IT on 1st October 2004.

For providing job oriented education the Directorate of IT & TE has started vocational education across the state in the subjects like T.V.Technician, Office automation; levels 1 & 2, General construction, Wireman etc.
