The Department of Higher Education Nagaland Government is administering authority for higher education in Nagaland. The department looks after all colleges, Universities, and Institutes providing higher education in the state. The department works in close liaison with the Ministry of Human Resources Development and formulates planning and policies for collegiate education in association with University Grants Commission (UGC) of India, the Nagaland University and other universities and educational apex bodies in the country.  The Department of Higher Education have implemented various works programme under the State Plan for ongoing works and at the same time taken up new projects. The objectives of Department of Higher Education is to focus on:

   1. Knowledge generation
   2. Strive for excellence
   3. Social Justice
   4. Faculty development
